I recently moved to Hollywood Road, which defines HK’s most popular and trendy neighborhood called Soho (area just south of Hollywood Road).
Making Nice With The Kong
Today marks 2 years, 2 months and 22 days living in Hong Kong. After two jobs, three flats and a few hundred massages later, I’ve finally learned how to have balance and happiness on this tiny island I call home.
- Simplify Life
- Make It Easy
- Recharge Often
- Explore Locally
- Utilize Every Minute
Great Migration.
This year the Chinese welcomes the Year of the Horse. But first, they need to usher themselves on a very long journey back to their home villages. For some, this journey has already started. But for most, it all begins tonight. Over the next few weeks, China’s railway systems will handle over 5 million daily trips, 3 billion passengers, and will serve- most possibly, over 10 trillion instant noodle cups.
Maneuvering HK Public Transportation
It’s funny, in the states I couldn’t imagine life without a car and here I can’t imagine having one. Sure, I miss listening to the radio, having that personal space and time alone and not having to worry about hauling everything with me literally on me. That backseat… what a gift. But, I hear the hassle of car ownership on the island outweigh the perks. And with all the public transportation options, I don’t really feel immobile… just weighed down.
Getting Here.

Welcome to the world of Hong Kong, according to me. My daily life in Hong Kong could not be more different from the life I had in the states. Most of my life was spent in Dallas, with the exception of a few years in Chicago and Tulsa. So you can imagine, Hong Kong has been quite the culture slap! However, I thought I had an idea of what life would be like in Hong Kong, as I had traveled here extensively for several years. However, traveling and living are two completely different things.
